Siya Mhlongo on Leave Amid Assault Reports

Radio presenter Siya Mhlongo has temporarily taken a step back from his hosting duties on “Ukhozi FM” following claims of assault.

According to recent reports, Mhlongo allegedly assaulted his boyfriend, Njabulo, with a beer bottle during a night out in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal last Saturday, 31 August.

A video clip circulating on social media allegedly shows Njabulo – wiping blood from his face with what looks like toilet paper – refusing to get into a car with Mhlongo, who urges him to get in so that he can drive him to the hospital.

On Thursday, 5 September, Mmoni Seapolelo, a media relations manager for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), confirmed the following to a local media outlet:

“‘Ukhozi FM’ management would like to confirm that Mr Siya Mhlongo has requested to take some time off from work to deal with a personal matter. During this period, Zama Mseleku will be standing in for him.”

Regarding the video, Seapolelo added: “At this stage, management would like to be given an opportunity to address the matter internally in line with SABC processes. In addition, if the matter is reported to the law enforcement authorities, management will also respect this process.”
